First thing I noticed in these chapters is that Jacob never seemed or prayed to God for direction on any matter. In chapter 31, it says the Lord spoke to him and told him what to do. Jacob had God's favor in the 20 years before that but things were I believe more difficult and he had to work much harder than he probably would have if he had been seeking God more. I am not saying life is super easy if you do seek God for direction. there will still be challenges and such. but I have found the more I seek God the better things are. Yes there are struggles but you can have peace during them that God is working it out.
It's ironic that Jacob who deceived his dad into giving him the first born blessing, now gets deceived by his uncle to take the first born daughter.
This multiple wives situation is yet another example of why God said one man and one woman for marriage. The house was divided with hatred and envy. Despite that God did bless both sides with kids. In His timing, He even takes Rachaels's barren womb and opens it to give her a son, Joesph.
Another way you can see how God's favor was on Jacob was that even though Laban tried to cheat him into not getting any of the flocks of livestock God blessed Jacob with the strongest of the flocks. I would like to not that Jacob thought he was causing it to happen by laying out the bark but in reality it was God. How many times do we try to take credit for what God has done in our lives? But when things don't go right we are quick to blame the devil for it. We need to be more thankful to God and what He does for us!
