Intro & Genesis 1

I was gifted with a ESV Study Bible and a journal to write in with it. I decided not only to write in the journal but to create this blog too. That way I can share my observations and thoughts with others. I will not be discussing every verse. I am open to having discussions with people about these observations and thoughts.

To go through my new study Bible I thought the best place to do so was Genesis.  Today I read Chapter 1.
  1. First all six days He(God) created everything the days starts out with, "And God said..." God spoke what He was creating. That is how powerful He is! I also believe He was setting an example for us to show us just how powerful words especially spoken ones can be. I won't list them here but I know there are several other scriptures later on that speak more on the power of the "tongue".
  2. He then created light, really looked at it and decided it was good. That started the cycle of days.
  3. Interesting thing I noticed is that 5 out of 6 days He ends the day looking over what He created and thinking it was good. It says, "And God saw it was good." I wonder why on day 2 when He separated the sky from the sea it doesn't say that He saw it and it was good. But on day 6 it does say, "And He saw everything that He made, and behold, it was very good."
  4. Another thing I noticed which stuck out to me is when He talks about creating all the plant life and all creatures in or on water, air or land it always says, "according to its kind." It most be an important statement to repeat it so many times.  After more research online I found THIS article that explains more on the meaning of it.
  5. The final thing I want to talk about is Genesis 1:26 "Let us make man in our image." In the notes it has ideas of what people think the "us" refers to. The last one mentioning it could be the first reference to the Trinity (The Father, Son & Holy Spirit). I am inclined to agree with that. We are 3 part creations the spirit, soul and body. I feel like the Trinity is represented in that; spirit being the Holy Spirit, soul representing the Father, and the body representing Christ who became flesh.
