One is Not Enough

In a way, I feel like dork of sorts all excitingly waiting for UPS to show up. Wonder what it is I am so eager to get. It’s another bible. Yes, I said another it will be the fourth one in our household. Don’t get why I am enthusiastic about getting it. It’s God’s Word how could one  not be excited.  

I speculate that one that does not know the Lord or have a desire to know the Lord, would assume that the bible is just another book.  It’s not. It is a living book designed to change people. If everyone lived their life the way the bible instructs, life would be so peaceful.  Most people don’t want to hear that though, cause they prefer hatred, murder, thievery, lying, warring  and countless other rancid acts. 

Back to why I am excited though,  it’s because the bible is one of the ways God talks to me. It helps me to draw closer to Him. The closer I get the better I feel and the more amazing things I see. 

Some may question why the three I already have are not enough.  They are all different translations.  When I made the choice to truly seek God I got an NIV (New International Version) because it was one I was slightly familiar with and honestly I liked the fact the cover was blue.   When I finished that one I wanted to give it to Curtis to read and I felt lead to get  a NLT (New Living Translation). That’s the one I’m reading right now and am actually almost done with it, hence why I ordered a new one.  For me the different wording helps me to understand things I didn’t fully understand in previous versions. For example the other day I read Hebrews, which I have read before, but it was like reading it for the first time.  I am sure part of it may be that the closer I get to God the more He allows my eyes to truly see.  My newest will be a NASB (New American Standard Bible).  Also another difference is that this latest one is a study bible. It has loads more extra information, that I  am hoping will allow me to learn even more. 

This is why one is not enough for me. I would recommend if you have been reading only one translation and feel like you aren’t getting anything out of it any more or you aren’t excited to read God’s word try another version.  To anyone not reading the bible at all I highly recommend you do so it can and will change your life.
